NEUROMA

What Are Neuromas
- Benign pinched nerve / nerve swelling most commonly between the third and fourth toes.
- Most common amongst women.
​

Causes
- Biomechanical abnormalities (i.e. flat feet / high arch)
- Improper footwear (i.e. heels / tight shoes)
​- Structural deformities 
- Repetitive trauma to the feet from normal activities


Symptoms
- Pain 
- Numbness/Tingling 
- Swelling between toes
- Feeling of "walking on a stone" 
- Slight relief with massaging the area


When To Visit A Foot Specialist
- If any of the following symptoms above are present, seek treatment as neuromas tend to get worse if left untreated. 

What Can I Expect During The Visit
- Physical examination of the lower limbs. ​
- Padding / Taping techniques
- Medication to ease pain and inflammation
- Ultrasound / Laser Therapy
- Orthotics
- Injections
- Surgical Correction


Prevention
- Wear shoes that have wide and deep toe boxes to accommodate your foot properly. 
- Adequate padding at the ball of the foot within shoes or orthotics. 
- Avoid heels that are greater than 2 inches.
